FOTD – 9/1/10 – FOTD – New Las Vegas Colors – Desert Rose, Bedazzled, Viva la Diva, Breathless

Since we released the new Sweet Libertine Las Vegas eyeshadow line yesterday, I thought that I would do a FOTD with some of the new colors!

For this Face of the Day I used Desert Rose, Bedazzled, Viva la Diva, and Breathless.

To start, I put Desert Rose on the entire lid, and then blended Viva la Diva into the inner lid.

I then took Bedazzled and blended it into the crease. I used a sheer white matte (a test color we are developing) for a brow bone highlight, and then used Breathless to blend the colors into the highlight.

While most of the Vegas line has plenty of sparkle and glitter, it’s easy to blend the colors down into less sparkly colors. I left a little bit of sparkle – but since I had to run to Target, I didn’t want to be to over the top! Bedazzled is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors!

Looking for Testers!

Looking for Testers!

Sweet Libertine needs testers! Why, you ask?

Sweet Libertine has been working hard to improve their eye shadow selection by creating colors that are more intense, more pigmented, and have better adhesion. But to really get an idea of how people like it, we need testers!

Some requirements:

  • That you use Sweet Libertine or own some Sweet Libertine eye shadows OR
  • Are a makeup artist, beauty blogger, or have a lot of experience with high end eye shadows.
  • Will be able to try 2-3 colors out within a week of getting the shadows and fill out a questionnaire by email.
  • If you request to be a tester you agree to give your honest opinion and not disclose the color, eye shadows, and other Sweet Libertine products that you receive to test to other people or blog about them.
  • I apologize for this part, but I can only take U.S. participants due to postage and shipping times.

A big key is honest opinion – I am very excited about this new type of eye shadows and want to make sure to that they are good quality, and I can only do this through honest feedback. They include the same ingredients as the regular, already-available shadows but they are made with a technique that allows much more control on my end.

If you are interested in testing, please Copy and Paste this into an email and send to Sarah@sweetlibertine.com . If I don’t answer that doesn’t mean you automatically were rejected – that means I had a lot of people apply, and I want to get samples sent to as many testers as possible. So even if you don’t hear from me, you may receive the eye shadows in the mail with a website address with the questionnaire.

Please copy and paste this form, complete it, and send it to sarah@sweetlibertine.com:

Please specify your experience with makeup, if you’re a Sweet Libertine customer, beauty blogger or makeup artist:

FOTD – 7/18/10 – Lady Be Good, Hitchhiker, Copper Penny

FOTD – 7/18/10 – Lady Be Good, Hitchhiker, Copper Penny

Today’s Face of the Day turned out really well and I got a lot of compliments on it. I was wanting to use more natural colors so I used Copper Penny, Lady Be Good, and Hitchhiker.

I used Hitchhiker on the lid and then blended Copper Penny into the crease.

I then used Lady Be Good as a brownbone highlight – the gold was light enough to make my eye pop yet added a bit more depth to things.

Overall, this seemed to be a very good everyday look. I’ll definitely be using this combo again!

Guest Post: Using Glitter on Fingernail Polish!

Click here for more info on Glitterama 2010 – all Sweet Libertine Glitters are $4 each!

This guest blog post is from forum user Niseema, who is a nail polish addict and also has a love for glitter. I hope you find her post useful – I know I did! – Sarah

I tend to get a little obsessed with things I love. Sweet Libertine. My nails. These two are huge. When I find a way to bring two of my obsessions together, it usually ends with me squeeing. While watching YouTube videos on how to do simple nail art, it suddenly hit me…

I can use Sweet Libertine glitter. On my nails. OHMYGOODNESS I AM A GENIUS! THIS IS THE BEST IDEA EVER! But…how?

I scoured the interwebs for tutorials and information to figure out how to get cosmetic-safe glitter onto my nails. I mucked up a couple of good manicures, tried different tools, and ultimately came up with a few ways that I think really work well with Sweet Libertine glitters. It’s a really fun way to express yourself and play with the glitters if you’re not used to working with them. You can get a variety of looks with the same jar of glitter by slightly altering your application technique. HAVE FUN!

For the purposes of this post, I am showing application of glitter onto already-painted nails. These techniques will work best if used with clear polish/top coat and not on your wet manicure color. Trust me; I jacked up a few manicures trying to take a shortcut.

What I used:

Sweet Libertine Cosmic Brownie

Sweet Libertine Champagne Supernova

Qtips, a nice hand full

An old eyeliner brush to brush excess glitter – if you don’t have one, use another Qtip or just wash it off later

A thin clear top coat (what most of us think of as clear nailpolish, like the kind you used to use to stop your pantyhose from running) I used Orly

Poshe top coat (you can use Seche Vite if you prefer, but beware of the dreaded polish shrinkage)

Quite a few sheets of paper towel

What I did:

I started with a fresh manicure – this is OPI You Don’t Know Jacques

Next, I dumped a little pile of Sweet Libertine Cosmic Brownie glitter onto the paper towel in front of me and made sure the Qtips were at the ready. I brushed the clear polish on one nail (only one nail!) and used a Qtip to lightly brush glitter on top.

This technique gives me medium glitter coverage. If I want a little less glitter, I let the clear polish sit for about 10-15 seconds before applying the glitter. This gives me light glitter coverage, every time.

It can get a little messy, but that’s why you have extra Qtips and the brush.

If you’re like me and love anything sparkly, you’re saying…GIMME MOAR GLITTER. If that’s you, then you’ll just have to dip right in that pile of Sweet Libertine glitter, sistah.

You’ll lift your finger from the little pile of glittery goodness and think…WHOA. But…it’s messy!

Brush over top with your brush or smooth it out with a Qtip. If you have an old empty clear polish brush, it will work great too.

After you are finished doing one nail at a time, apply your thick top coat gently. You don’t want the brush to touch the glitter – no need for it if you’re using a thick topcoat.

OHNOES! It got on my cuticles! Don’t panic! It will come off with regular nailpolish remover. Let it fully dry and clean up the edges.

Tips, from me to you:

Seriously, only do one nail at a time. I do my nails every day and I have tried to rush through two nails at once, only to fail.

Take the time to smooth out the glitter on each nail as you apply it. I thought I’d go back later and smooth it out, only to fail.

Dump the Sweet Libertine Glitter out onto a paper towel. You don’t want to put anything that’s touched nailpolish into the jar of glitter that will later be applied to your eyes. I thought I could apply glitter using a fresh Qtip for each nail, but I failed.

Experiment! Here are some ideas…

Try different polish colors with matching or contrasting Sweet Libertine glitters – someone please do a Skittles manicure with a bunch of different glitter colors!

Paint clear polish just on to the tips, dip into that glitter pile – this creates an awesome funky French manicure look that I LOVE.

Try striping that clear polish down the middle, or just on one or two nails.

Polka dots! Polka dots under sequins! Polka dots under fimo!

Add Sweet Libertine glitter to just one finger, if you’re not quite ready to take the full glittery plunge.

Add some of your favorite Sweet Libertine glitter to the last ½ inch of your favorite polish – clear or not!

Glitterama 2010 is the BEST time to stock up on the Sweet Libertine glitters so you can experiment!

I hope you find these tips helpful and most of all…FUN. If you need help, please feel free to ping me on the forums or email me at niseema@gmail.com.

Glitterama 2010: 8 New Glitter Colors Swatched!

Glitterama 2010: 8 New Glitter Colors Swatched!

Click for more information – all glitters are $4 each!

With the start of Glitterama 2010, we introduced eight new glitter colors! I took swatches of them today and uploaded them to the Sweet Libertine Swatching Project Flickr Pool.

Swatched here is (left to right) Peeenk, Dirty Girl, and Mojito. Peeenk is a medium pink color – it’s a gorgeous color, and my favorite shade of pink. In the middle is Dirty Girl (ha) which is a dark reddish brown with hints of gold – this would look amazing on brown eyes. On the far right is Mojito, which is a kelly green with a gold sparkle – this would look absolutely awesome on hazel eyes, and would also make green eyes pop.

Here we have (left to right) Chocolate Covered Cherry, Dirty Martini, and Fallen Star. Chocolate Covered Cherry is a brown with a gold and red sparkle – I can’t wait to wear this one! I have brown eyes and I think it would really make them stand out. In the middle is Dirty Martini, which is an olive green with gold sparkles. This would look gorgeous on green or hazel eyes, and also blue eyes. On the far right is Fallen Star, a silver glitter with hints of reddish brown and gold highlights. Since Chocolate Covered Cherry and Fallen Star look vaguely similar, I took a second picture:

Chocolate Covered Cherry is definitely in the brown category, while Fallen Star looks has more of a purple tone.

Here are the final two colors, Irish Eyes and Foxy. Irish Eyes (left) is a teal with kelly green and gold sparkles – I would love to see this glitter on blue eyes! And on the right is Foxy, a reddish gold glitter with red and gold sparkles.

Glitterama 2010 – Swatches of Pharoah, Cardinal Sin, Maximum Overdrive, Caboodles, Moonlighting

Glitterama 2010 – Swatches of Pharoah, Cardinal Sin, Maximum Overdrive, Caboodles, Moonlighting

Click banner for more info – all glitters are $4!

Since it’s Glitterama week at Sweet Libertine I thought it might be fun to post some swatching pictures from forum user Niseema. She added these to the Sweet Libertine Swatching Project pool on Flickr – she took some great photos!

From left to right is Pharaoh, Maximum Overdrive, Cardinal Sin, Caboodle, and Moonlighting. Pharaoh is a gold glitter that would make most eye colors pop – gold is a great compliment color, especially to green or brown eyeshadows. It would work well paired with regular mineral eyeshadow, especially Jangala, Karma, or Thai Silk.

To the right of that is Maximum Overdrive which has a base glitter color of black with silver holographic glitter. Maximum Overdrive would look great with the Astronaut set, Pacific Blue, and Secret Liaison mineral eyeshadows.

This is a good picture showing how the holographic glitter shows up in Maximum Overdrive. This looks divine in a smokey eye – it gives it an extra boost without messing with the smokey-ness. To the right of Maximum Overdrive is Cardinal Sin, a blood red glitter. Cardinal Sin is a true red which makes it a fun, bold glitter. This would work great as an eyeliner or applied all over the eyelid. It would compliment Element, Jet Set, or Nightlife on Mars.

To the right of Cardinal Sin is a soft pink glitter, Caboodle. This is a lighter glitter and wouldn’t be too bold, a glitter like this works well brushed over an eyeshadow to give it some extra sparkle. This would pair well with a good number of the purple and pinkish mineral eyeshadows, especially Silk Ribbon, Lilac, and Smoking Gun.

To the far right is a straight silver glitter, Moonlighting. It’s a versatile color that is a fine silver glitter. This color works pretty well with everything due to it being a “neutral” color, and would look stunning as an eyeliner and worn with Something Blue, Disco Butterfly, or Blue Emperor Dragonfly mineral eyeshadows.

If you’d like to see more glitter swatches you can jump over to The Sweet Libertine Swatching Project Flickr pool. Anyone is welcome to add swatches, and it’s neat to see how skin tone and application can vary from person to person!
