Meet Plato, the kitten.

Update: $80 raised so far from the purchase of Precious Cargo! Let’s keep working at this! You guys are awesome.

Meet Plato, the kitten. The picture is blurry, because like most 10 week old kittens, he won’t stay still. I’m amazed I got a somewhat-in-focus picture of him to begin with.

Plato didn’t have a good start at life. He was born in a home that had seventy other cats.  The owner meant well, she really did, but she got overwhelmed by cats that were un-fixed and reproducing. There were a group of rescuers – three of them – that stepped in to help the woman. They emptied the house out and worked on rehabilitating cats, treating illness, spaying and neutering, and hospitalizing the very sickest.

Plato was one of the sickest and was hospitalized for starvation and an upper respiratory virus. His documented weight is “1.0 pounds”, and his notes read “Extremely thin, protruding backbone, not very energetic or playful.” His tail seems to have been broken in 3 places.  Things weren’t looking up.

But Plato pulled through. And I saw this little black kitten on a Craigslist ad that was in foster and fell in love.

Plato is now three pounds, and “not very energetic or playful” has changed to “hell raiser”.  He thinks the dry food dish is a play toy and the water dish is just storage for his mousie. He politely taps me on the arm when he wants in my lap, and he is BFFs with our other cat, Socrates:

And because this is a cat post, it wouldn’t be fit without a gratuitous cat picture

But, ahem.

The downside to this situation is that there are a number of cats that still need homes and medical attention. If I had a larger home, I would foster a few in a heartbeat, but our apartment is pretty small. So I’m doing what I (hopefully) do best – make makeup.

This is a completely new color. It’s a first for Sweet Libertine – it’s an eyeshadow AND glitter, in one. The cost of the eyeshadow is $7 – and a full $5 of that will go directly to Evelyn, Plato’s rescuer. I can’t guarantee how long the eyeshadow will be available – it depends on how long this rescue effort takes and how much money we can manage to bring in.

This color applies a gorgeous, intense teal with hints of purple and teal glitter – sparkly, but not overpowering. To purchase it, go here.

Evelyn and the other rescuers are working very hard to try to save all of the cats that came from the hoarding situation, but they need an estimated $5000-$6000. Do I think we can raise that much by selling an eyeshadow? Nope. But what we can do is give Evelyn what we can, and try to make that huge sum of money they need a little bit smaller. Any amount of money we give her will go directly towards the care of the cats, for food, for medical care, for medicine. So by buying the eyeshadow you are helping the cats directly. I’ve seen these kittens, played with them, and brought one home – the rescuers involved are doing a really good thing, and I’d like to be able to help them in their efforts.
