How To Use the New Sweet Libertine Glitters

Today Sweet Libertine has released a line of glitter eye shadows. Glitter will be huge this fall and winter, and would be a blast to wear on holidays – Halloween, Christmas, New Years. But now that you have your glitter, you are probably wondering how to use it!

Let me note here: Please use cosmetic safe glitter. The type you get from craft and grocery stores are not the same and can damage the eye. Cosmetic safe glitter is milled in a way to minimize any irritation.

The most subtle effect for glitter is to simply load your brush with a bit of it and apply it over your typical eye shadow application. This gives a light dusting without being overbearing.

It’s really easy, though, to make the glitter more dramatic. Cream eye shadows are a good medium – you can either apply the cream eye shadow and then press the glitter into it, or mix the glitter straight into the eye shadow and then apply it. You can also use MAC’s Water Base Mixing Medium – just wet an eye shadow brush with it, dip into the glitter, and press the glitter onto your eyelid. You can also pre-mix it, just like the cream eye shadow. Don’t blend the glitter, though, because trying to blend it will make the glitter fall off. Make sure to play around with mixing mediums, though, so you can find what works best for you. Lash glue is also a recommended medium, along with Sephora’s “Lip Last”, gel based eyeshadows, and any fixing medium.

You can also line your eyes using glitter – get a gel liner and apply it. Then wet your brush, dip into the glitter, and press into the liner.

Hopefully you’ll have lots of fun with your glitter eye shadow – and remember, don’t hesitate to contact me with more questions or ideas!
